Openstack skills that are needed

  1. API design - RESTFul / JSON - XML APIS
  2. Opensource projects - Openstack, Cloudify, Cloudfoundry, kvm, 
  3. Programming using Java, NodeJS,JavaScript, C/C++, Perl, Python or Ruby on rails
  4. very good knowledge and experience of OpenStack 
  5. Should be familiar with CI/CD (Jenkins, Bamboo, Stash/Bitbucket), issue tracking(Jira) and Git
  6. Understanding of Operating Systems (Flavors of Linux preferred), APIs and networks.
  7. Hands on experience of working on VMWare/KVM/XEN and exposure to any other virtualization technology.
  8. Experience on DevOps, with exposure to deployent automation like Fuel, Ansible.
  9. Understands container technology (Docker, Kubernetes, Mesos/Marathon, etc.)
  10. Understands virtualization technologies and infrastructure (Openstack, vSphere, virtualized storage, overlay networks, etc.)
  11. Familiar with deployment tools such as Vagrant, Chef or Puppet, Saltstack, and Ansible.
  12. Familiarity with security fundamentals at the infrastructure and operating system level, including cloud and hypervisor
  13. Technical experience with one or more virtualization and cloud technologies, e.g. Red Hat OpenStack Platform, Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization (RHEV), VMWare vSphere, Microsoft

Using ssh keys to login to VMs

1. first generate a public / private key pair using ssh-keygen     ssh-keygen -t rsa -b 4096 -C "ranjit"       - accept the prompts       - if needed, enter a filename - e.g rsa-mykey       - no need of passphrase    after the command executes, 2 files are generated:    rsa-mykey   - this is the private key file    rsa-mykey.pub  - this is the public key file  2.   store the public key file to authorized_keys  :e.g cp rsa-mykey.pub ~/.ssh/authorized_keys  3.   Use the private key file to login into the machine with tools like Putty  4.  Putty does not accept this private key file as it is in openssh ssh-2 format. So convert to putty        private  file format using puttygen        a)  open puttygen        b)  load the private key file        c)  then save the private key file  5.  Use the saved private key file (e.g .ppk) to login to the machine using Putty.
